Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN)

Project Description

The Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN) deployment project increased commercial vehicle safety and efficiency through the electronic integration of numerous licensing, credentialing and safety inspection information systems. Minnesota was one of seven states selected by FHWA as pilots for the CVISN deployment effort.

The CVISN project enhanced commercial vehicle operations in Minnesota by creating open electronic data interchange standards and interfaces. It provided safety information distribution at the roadside, electronic application for credentials, electronic clearinghouses for payment of registration and fuel taxes, and the electronic clearance of trucks at fixed and mobile enforcement sites.
