Adaptive Urban Signal Control and Integration (AUSCI)

Project Description

The objective of this project was to implement an adaptive signal timing plan generation algorithm for the existing traffic control system in Minneapolis. The concept of adaptive signal timing control is that the system continuously monitors traffic flow and optimizes traffic signal operation based on an on-line traffic flow model.  The AUSCI project implemented the Signal Cycle Offset Optimization Technique (SCOOT) optimization module into the city's T2000C control platform and deployed advanced traffic detectors over 56 intersections.


This project consisted of two phases. Phase I covered project concept definition and preliminary project design. Phase II included detailed design, implementation, and the operational test of the system.
