About Mitigation Projects
The flood mitigation projects are funded through existing bond authority and include:
- Improvements to drainage structures, slopes, berms and ditches prone to flooding
- Repairs, realignments or raises to highways that regularly flood in the Twin Cities metro area
Minnesota River Flood Mitigation Study
A 2011 study identified feasible ways to mitigate congestion caused by seasonal flooding.
Minnesota River Flood Mitigation Study
In February 2011, the Minnesota Department of Transportation initiated the Minnesota River Flood
Mitigation Study to investigate lower-cost, shorter-term ways to improve local and regional mobility during
seasonal flooding in the Minnesota River Valley that can force closures of 101
between the Cities of Chanhassen and Shakopee and Highway 41 in the City of Chaska.
