What is the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act?

 

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 was signed into law Feb. 17.

 

The act will provide several hundred million dollars to Minnesota for transportation needs.

 

The goal of the Act is to create jobs and improve the nation’s infrastructure.

 

 

What does it mean for transportation in Minnesota?

 

Mn/DOT will use this Web site to keep you up to date as details about the plan and its impact for Minnesota transportation become known.

Mn/DOT Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant applications

Mn/DOT submitted five applications to the $1.5 billion Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery federal grant program Sept. 15. The TIGER program is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed by the U.S. Congress in February 2009.

 

States, local governments, tribal governments, transit agencies, port authorities, metropolitan planning organizations and other political subdivisions of state and local governments are competing for these funds.

About 30 percent of Minnesota's American recovery and reinvestment highway funds will be distributed to local units of government.
