Detour for Highway 71 North project starts May 14
WILLMAR, Minn. — The detour for the Hwy 71 North project starts Monday, May 14, 2018. The detour will be in effect until the project is complete. The project completion date is August 31, 2018. Utility work and work on the turn lanes began Monday, April 30.
To get to Sibley State Park from the west take Kandiyohi CR 5 to Kandiyohi CR 40 to Kandiyohi CR 38 to US 71. Please note that Kandiyohi CR 5 is closed at CR 40 for bridge work. This is a Kandiyohi County project. If you are traveling from the east take Hwy 23 to Hwy 9 to US 71.
The project includes the resurfacing Highway 71 from the junction of Hwy 23 to just north of Highway 9 (less than ½ mile) in Kandiyohi County. In addition to the resurfacing project, MnDOT will be constructing left and right turning lanes, a bypass lane and a pedestrian underpass (as part of a DNR trail extension from New London to Sibley State Park) on the same stretch of road.
Motorists can expect a smoother road surface as well as enhanced safety and mobility when the project is finished. The project is estimated to cost $6 million dollars. Hardrives is the contractor on the project.
Information, including a list of left and right turn locations, can be found at mndot.gov/d8/projects/us71north.
