Hwy 23 detour from Granite Falls to Cottonwood starts July 20
WILLMAR, Minn. – The construction of passing lanes on Highway 23 (north segments) began on Monday, June 13. Currently, a detour is effect south of Raymond to Clara City.
On Wednesday, July 20, 2016 the detour on Highway 23 from Granite Falls to Cottonwood begins. The detour will take motorists on Highway 274/CR 6 to CR1/10. A complete detour map is below.
The Highway 23 passing lanes are a Corridors of Commerce project. The 2013 Minnesota Legislature created the Corridors of Commerce program by authorizing the sale of up to $300 million in new bonds for the construction, reconstruction and improvement of trunk highways.
Project benefits include:
- Enhanced highway safety by reducing pressure for traffic to make high-risk passes
- Increases the predictability of travel time for the corridor
- Encourages commercial traffic to use the corridor instead of seeking a longer and potentially less safe alternative route
- Provides opportunities to pass slower traffic which better accommodates the varying mix of corridor traffic
The estimated project cost is $10.9 million. For more information on this project visit mndot.gov/d8/projects/hwy23passinglanes/.
MnDOT asks motorists to slow down and pay attention while driving through work zones. Remember orange cones, no phones. Motorists who speed through a work zone or who disobey work zone flaggers face a $300 fine.
