Orange barrels on a highway

Prep work for realignment and reconstruction of Hwy 274 begins

WILLMAR, Minn. –Motorists traveling on Hwy 274 near Prairie’s Edge Casino will notice off-road work as crews prepare for a project to realign and reconstruct the road.

Construction of the project will be done in stages.  During the majority of the project traffic will be able to continue to use Hwy 274 to get to Wood Lake and to Prairie’s Edge Casino.  However, in mid-June traffic will be detoured to Hwy 67 and onto Yellow Medicine County Road 44.

Once completed, Hwy 274 will be realigned so that traffic traveling from Hwy 23 to Prairie’s Edge Casino would continue straight, as compared to making a left turn onto Yellow Medicine County Road 44.  Motorists traveling from Hwy 23 to Wood Lake will make a right turn to continue south on Hwy 274 from the newly- realigned roadway.

R & G Construction Co., of Marshall, MN is the prime contractor for this $2M project.  The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-November, weather permitting.

This project is being funded and built by the Upper Sioux Community.  MnDOT and the Upper Sioux Community have joined in a partnership to ensure that this project gains the most value possible for the motoring public.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution in a work zone and reminds them never to enter a roadway that has been blocked with barricades or cones.
