Reconstruction of Hwy 212 near Dawson begins May 12

Project requires road closure and detour   

WILLMAR, Minn. –Motorists traveling on Hwy 212 near Dawson will encounter a detour beginning Monday, May 12, while crews reconstruct the Hwy from the city of Dawson to Lac Qui Parle County Road 35. 

Traffic will be detoured to Lac Qui Parle County Roads 23 and 2, Chippewa County Road 5 and Hwy 59.  The detour is scheduled to be in place through August.  (Editor’s note:  See attached map). 

PCI Roads of St. Michael, MN is the prime contractor for the $6.1M project.  The project is scheduled to be completed by late August, weather permitting.

The public is invited to attend a project-related open house prior to construction.  The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 8 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center at Dawson City Hall, 675 Chestnut Street in Dawson. 

With this project, MnDOT is working to enhance an efficient and effective transportation system and ensure that the transportation system with continue to serve the state for many years.      

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution in a work zone and reminds them never to enter a roadway that has been blocked with barricades or cones.
