Prep work for Hwy 71 resurfacing project south of Willmar begins Sept. 3
Willmar, Minn. -- Motorists may encounter delays when crews begin constructing left turn lanes on Hwy 71 south of Willmar beginning Tuesday, Sept. 3 in preparation for the resurfacing project that will start Wednesday, Sept. 4. On Thursday, Sept. 5, crews will move north of Willmar and begin constructing turn lanes from Kandiyohi County Road 24 to the Hwy 71/Hwy 23 split.
During turn lane construction and resurfacing operations the left lane of northbound Hwy 71 will be closed from Kandiyohi County Road 24 to Point Lake Drive for approximately five weeks. The lane restriction will result in traffic delays for northbound motorists during this work.
Duininck Inc. of Prinsburg is the prime contractor for the nearly $3.4 million project, which is scheduled for completion for late October, weather permitting.
Motorists will experience a smoother and safer road surface when the entire project is complete.
MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
