Hwy 59 in Murray County nears completion
WILLMAR, Minn. – The Hwy 59 detour from Slayton to Valhalla Road will be lifted by Nov. 2, weather permitting.
“All of the resurfacing is complete,” said Project Engineer Nick Klisch. “Over the next few days the contractor will be placing gravel on the shoulders, painting road markings, installing road signs and grinding rumble strips.”
Rumble strips are a low cost, high benefit feature that utilize noise and vibration to alert inattentive drivers and reduce the number of accidents. Edgeline rumble strips have shown to reduce run-off-the-road crashes by 15 to 40 percent.
The Hwy 59 construction included three projects that were combined to reduce the overall impact on motorists and residents by using a single detour. The overall project included resurfacing six miles of pavement near Slayton, repair of 11 miles of concrete roadway near Garvin and the realignment of the junction of Hwy 30 and Hwy 59.
