Extra enforcement taking place along Hwy 59 work zone
WILLMAR, Minn. – Extra enforcement is currently taking place along Hwy 59 from Slayton to Hwy 14 to ensure safety for both motorists and workers. The Minnesota Department of Transportation encourages motorists to slow down and use caution throughout the work zone.
When a road is closed, it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or sentenced to 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
Work in the 17-mile construction zone includes:
- Resurfacing six miles of pavement from Slayton to the north junction of Hwy 30.
- Realigning Pete’s Corner.
- Repairing cracks and chips in 11 miles of concrete roadway.
