Hwy 23 detour near Granite Falls extended through mid-October
WILLMAR, Minn. – Motorists will continue using a detour for Hwy 23 from Clara City to Hwy 212 near Granite Falls through mid-October. The concrete repair project is scheduled to be complete by Saturday, Oct. 22, but the detour may be lifted one to two weeks earlier.
The project was originally scheduled to be completed in early September but experienced delays due to the state government shutdown.
Work begins 600 feet south of the Hwy 23/Hwy 7 junction in Clara City to the Hwy 23/Hwy 212 junction east of Granite Falls. The project includes removing and replacing deteriorated concrete.
Hwy 23 traffic continues to be detoured south on Chippewa County Road 2/Renville County Road 9, then west on Hwy 212 to Hwy 23.
During construction and road maintenance work, the Minnesota Department of Transportation urges drivers to:
- Stay alert, expect the unexpected. Be patient.
- Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
- Plan ahead and expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Don’t use cell phones while driving.
- Remember text messaging while driving is illegal.
- Follow posted speed limits; fines double in work zones.
