Update: Highway 67 east of Granite Falls to close for emergency repair work
Traffic will be detoured
WILLMAR, Minn. —Highway 67 located four miles east of Highway 23 in Granite Falls will close to traffic as early as Nov. 8, when crews begin emergency repair work to a slide area damaged by heavy rains.
Motorists traveling on Highway 67 will be detoured to Highway 23, Highway 274, Yellow Medicine County Road 18, Yellow Medicine County Road 21 to Highway 67.
Due to the project’s emergency status, a start date is anticipated for the week of Nov. 8 or Nov. 15. The project is expected to be completed in 3-6 weeks, weather permitting.
The project consists of stabilizing the stream bank of Hazel Creek and reconstructing 300 feet of Highway 67. Heavy rains received this summer and early fall saturated the underlying soils and caused Hazel Creek to erode part of the slope supporting Highway 67. The surface of the road has slipped approximately 12 inches in some locations.
Motorists have encountered one-lane traffic for approximately 200-300 feet since Sept. 28.
