Mn/DOT plans to restore historic Redwood Falls retaining wall in 2011
WILLMAR, Minn. —Restoration of a historic retaining wall at the junction of Highway 19, Highway 67 and Highway 71 in Redwood Falls is planned for 2011, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The wall has been damaged by numerous vehicle crashes over the years.
The retaining wall was built in 1935 and is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Funding for the project is provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Federal Highway Administration and the State of Minnesota.
The project will consist of matching the original design and materials to restore the historic piers, pilasters, stairs and rails on the west portion of the retaining wall. A box beam guardrail will be installed to protect the wall from further damage.
Bid opening for the restoration project is scheduled for Nov. 19, 2010, with construction expected to begin in 2011.
