Update: Highway 23 detour from north of Russell to Lynd will end Sept. 21
Motorists will continue to encounter lane changes and cleanup work
WILLMAR, Minn. —The Highway 23 detour from north of Russell to Lynd is expected to end on Tuesday, Sept. 21, weather permitting. This segment has been detoured since July 6 for resurfacing.
Highway 23 traffic from Lynd to Marshall continues to be channeled to the eastbound lanes while shoulder paving, inslope shaping, seeding, mulching, striping; and signage and concrete median work is completed on the westbound lanes. Motorists may encounter brief lane closures and short delays near Southwest Minnesota State University north of Highway 19 at County Road 7 and in the city of Lynd while miscellaneous cleanup work continues.
Remaining work on the pedestrian underpass north of Highway 19 includes, retaining wall staining, slope shaping and seeding, trail paving, trail shouldering; storm sewer, sidewalk, lighting and landscaping work.
The 12.2 mile, $16.7 million concrete overlay and reconstruction project began May 3 and is expected for completion on Oct. 15. The new pedestrian underpass and trail is also expected to be complete on Oct. 15.
The project will reduce maintenance costs and improve pavement strength.
