Mn/DOT to alleviate traffic congestion on Highway 23 in Marshall
WILLMAR, Minn. - Mn/DOT will alleviate traffic congestion on Highway 23 in Marshall due to backups that have occurred during peak traffic at the intersection of Highway 23 and Highway 59 in Marshall. The backups are a result of single lane restrictions and traffic signals lights that replaced by a four-way stop.
The restrictions are to prepare for the upcoming resurfacing project on Highway 23 from Russell to Marshall that began on May 3.
Local police will provide traffic control at the intersection of Highway 23 and Highway 59 during peak traffic times, convert 4th Street, Saratoga and Lyon Streets to right-in, right-out, and install portable traffic lights and three-way stop signs at other locations. Further improvements are being considered and will be implemented, if necessary. Additional project staging information and maps will be posted online soon.
The 12-mile resurfacing project extends from Russell to one-half mile north of Highway 19 in Marshall. The project will be constructed in two phases and consists of resurfacing, construction of a pedestrian underpass, storm sewer, lighting and sidewalk. The project will reduce maintenance costs and improve pavement strength.
The entire project is expected to be completed on October 15, weather permitting.
Project information and detour map is available at http://www.dot.state.mn.us/d8/projects/hwy23marshall/ or at http://www.dot.state.mn.us/roadwork/current.html.
