Mn/DOT plans controlled wetland burn along Highway 23 near Spicer
WILLMAR, Minn.- The Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to conduct a prescribed burn of a wetland along Highway 23 southwest of Spicer within the next five weeks. The actual date of the burn is dependent on weather and wind conditions.
Prescribed burning is a procedure used to promote the growth and seed production of native prairie species and to reduce the growth of undesirable species.
The wetland is located near the junction of Highway 23 and Kandiyohi County Road 127. The wetland was created approximately six years ago as part of the Highway 23 four-lane project between Willmar and New London.
The burn date will be selected when the wind blows away from Highway 23.
