Highway 7 traffic from Montevideo to Clara City remains detoured
WILLMAR, Minn. - Traffic will remain detoured on Highway 7 as the opening of the 15-mile resurfacing project from Montevideo to Clara City is delayed two weeks due to imperfections in the new concrete pavement.
The imperfections consist generally of fist-sized lumps of incompletely mixed concrete which could potentially reduce the durability of the surface.
Due to this unique situation, Mn/DOT is using a sophisticated ground penetrating radar system to test the concrete pavement to determine the location, size, and number of imperfections. The resulting data will be analyzed to develop strategies for repair to ensure that the public gets an appropriate return on their investment in this project.
Striping operations and sign installation are scheduled to begin soon. When the highway reopens in approximately two weeks, motorists may encounter minor delays with lane closures as crews continue to test the pavement and perform final clean up work.
Mn/DOT is sensitive to the concerns of motorists and businesses and thanks them for their patience during the project.
Highway 7 traffic remains detoured on east on Highway 212 in Montevideo to Highway 23 in Granite Falls, east to Highway 7 in Clara City.
The project, which began on May 11, is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed into law Feb. 17, 2009.
Mn/DOT urges motorists to plan ahead, watch for signs, and be alert for workers in the work zone. For updated statewide traffic, construction, weather and travel information, visit www.511mn.org, call 5-1-1 or log on to www.mndot.gov.
