Crews are installing advance warning flashers at several intersections in southwestern Minnesota to increase safety
WILLMAR, Minn. - The Minnesota Department of Transportation is installing advance warning flashers at five intersections in Lac qui Parle, Kandiyohi, Redwood, and Lyon Counties to increase safety.
Intersection locations include:
- Highway 75 at Highway 212 in Lac qui Parle County
- Highway 7 at Highway 71 in Kandiyohi County
- Highway 14 at Highway 71 in Redwood County
- Highway 23 at Highway 59, in Lyon County
- Highway 19/68 at Highway 23, in Lyon County
Advance warning flashers are positioned before the intersection. The signal is activated before the light itself changes from green to yellow to allow motorists time to reduce speed and prepare to stop. Surveys have shown that advance warning flashers are popular with the public and especially with operators of large commercial vehicles, which take much longer to stop than passenger cars.
Motorists should watch for workers and equipment near the intersections.
Mankato Electric, Inc. is the prime contractor for the $105,675 project. The work is scheduled to be completed by July 1, weather permitting.
Mn/DOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
