HIGHWAY 212 BETWEEN
BIRD ISLAND AND HECTOR OPEN TO TRAFFIC
WILLMAR, Minn.
- The Minnesota Department of Transportation, District 8, announced
today that Highway 212 between Hector and Bird Island is now open
to traffic.
According to
Kelly Brunkhorst, Mn/DOT project engineer, barricades were removed
at 2:00 p.m. today (November 13). Weather permitting; Brunkhorst
anticipates that the city of Olivia will be open before the Thanksgiving
holiday.
Highway 212
had been closed since May to complete $14 million in improvements
to two sections of Highway 212. The project consisted of adding
a passing lane, concrete paving, bituminous shoulders and lighting
between the east city limits of Bird Island to the west city limits
of Hector. In the city of Olivia, the highway was reconstructed
and designed with a center left turn lane, on-street parking and
concrete paving. The city also replaced water and sewer facilities.
A mill and bituminous overlay was also included in the city of Bird
Island .
Mn/DOT and project
contractors thank motorists and businesses for their patience during
the project.
