Willmar,
Minn. - The Minnesota Department of Transportation office in Willmar
announced today that a portion of Civic Center Drive will be closed
for approximately 7 hours on Friday, April 27, 2001, and motorists
will be asked to take an alternate route.
Plans call to
pour the deck of the bridge between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 3:30
p.m. During this time, it will be necessary to close Civic Center
Drive at the ramp to Highway 71/23 to the new city street into the
law enforcement center.
Motorists are reminded to slow down for their safety and the safety
of the workers as construction of the bridge continues. Lakeview
Construction, Glenwood, Minn., is the prime contractor of the bridge
construction. Construction of the new bridge began September 5,
2000.
Plans call to
begin removal of topsoil and paving the previously graded northbound
lanes the week of April 23. Interchanges will be constructed at
south junction Highway 71, Highway 12, Civic Center Drive and north
junction Highway 71. Construction of the interchanges is planned
to begin in July. An interchange at Willmar Avenue is also being
considered in the near future as a project sponsored by Kandiyohi
County and the city of Willmar.
