WILLMAR,
Minn. - Weather permitting, crack sealing in District 8 will get
underway on area highways the week of July 16 in the following order:
* Highway 75
from Pipestone to Pipestone Creek
* Highway 14 from Balaton to junction Highway 59
* Highway 23 from Clara City to Willmar
Motorists will
encounter delays in these areas and are asked to follow instructions
from flaggers and pilot cars. Motorists are reminded to slow down,
stay alert and give workers plenty of room to work in the work zone.
Fines for speeding double in work zones.
Crack sealing
is a two-step process; a router is used to widen cracks, creating
a reservoir in the roadway surface, then a sealing material is placed
in the cracks and covered with paper, according to Paul Jurek, project
engineer at the Minnesota Department of Transportation. According
to Jurek, the paper is used to cover the sealing material to prevent
it from being pulled out while the sealing material is cooling.
Weather permitting,
the project is expected to be complete in three weeks.
