MN/DOT ANNOUNCES SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA2000 HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMWillmar, Minn. - Safer and smoother highways in the southwest 12 county area will result from this summer=s estimated $23 million improvement program that was announced today by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, District 8. "The Legislature is currently deciding on a transportation funding package for the future," notes Dave Trooien, District Engineer. "The impact on construction could be significant. If the Legislature supports the Governor's Moving Minnesota plan, construction projects could be moved up as soon as next season." This summer=s improvements range from spot repairs to complete reconstruction (see attached project list). Highway maintenance and construction workers will be out in full force this spring and summer to complete these projects. Motorists are reminded to watch for work zones and when they see orange, to slow down and give workers plenty of room to work. To avoid delays caused by these projects, motorists are encouraged to obtain information about work zones and detours in the following ways:
