Design-Build
Mn/DOT used the Design-Build process for the Hwy 169 Saint Peter project in order to complete most construction by the end of 2009. Design-build is a contracting process that brings designers and contractors together early in the detail design portion of a project.
Mn/DOT clearly defines the standards and general specifications they expect for the project, and the design-build team works together to satisfy those requirements. In order to shorten the delivery time, design is completed on certain portions of the road while construction is occurring on other portions.
The design-build team selected for the Hwy 169 Saint Peter Design-Build project is led by Shafer Contracting Co., Inc. located in Shafer, Minnesota. The lead design firm for the project is RLK Engineering, located in the Twin Cities.
Construction impact
As with any major construction project, this one will cause disruption to businesses and residents along Minnesota Avenue (Hwy 169). Property owners will be notified when there are direct impacts to their property.
