Project status
MnDOT has revised the plans to build the Highway 14/41 project in North Mankato. MnDOT will build the project in two phases and complete it in the same time period (2012-13).
Detour set for 2012
Nicollet County Road 41 will close at the intersection with Highway 14 in North Mankato on Friday, May 11, as work progresses on the Highway 14 construction project.
Local traffic can use Pleasant View Drive in North Mankato to access County Road 41. A short bypass was built to connect Pleasant View Drive and County Road 41 until the new interchange is built.
No Highway 14 detour is anticipated until June. The Highway 14 detour will include County Road 6, County Road 77 and County Road 13/Lookout Drive. The detour will be in place until late summer or fall.
The detour for the 2012 construction season will use Nicollet County Road 6 and Lookout Drive (map).
Proposed construction
- Turn about 2 miles of Hwy 14 into a four-lane divided highway from County Road 6 in Belgrade Township to Lookout Drive in North Mankato
- Construct an interchange at Nicollet County Road 41
- Turn existing Hwy 14 into a frontage road between County Road 6 and County Road 41
Phase 1 Construction- 2012: (Hwy 14 traffic detoured during construction season; Hwy 14 traffic restored to 2-lanes over winter)
- Construct embankment for bridge, ramps, and County Road 41
- Construct ditches, ponds, drainage structures
- Grade mainline Hwy 14
- Pave eastbound Hwy 14 lanes
- Temporary signing/striping for two way traffic on eastbound lanes
- Grade, pave, and complete connections to County Road 6 and Pleasant View Drive
Phase 2 Construction – 2013:
- Pave westbound Hwy 14
- Permanent signing/striping on Hwy 14
- Construct County Road 41 bridge
- Pave County Road 41 interchange ramps and loop
- Construct roundabouts at ramp terminals
- Pave County Road 41 connections to north and south
- Final turf establishment
