News Release

June 9, 1999

MANKATO, Minn. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) is encouraging everyone with an interest in planning for the future of State Highway 60 from Worthington to Bigelow to attend an open house-style meeting on Thursday, June 24 in the Farmers Room of the Nobles County Courthouse, 315 10th Street, Worthington.
The open house is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. so that the public can stop by at their convenience.  A brief presentation will be offered at 6 p.m. that will provide an overview of the issues, schedules and process used to plan a major reconstruction of Highway 60.
An array of preliminary alternative routes being considered for the alignment of Highway 60 from Interstate 90 to the Iowa State line will be displayed.  Mn/DOT staff will be available to review the plans and answer questions with individuals.
Mn/DOT has established two local advisory committees to identify issues and get early input into the preliminary alternatives in preparation for this public open house.  A technical and a public advisory committee met with Project Manager Lisa Bigham and other design staff in early June.
Mn/DOT is in the early stages of about a two-year process that will determine a preferred alternative  for Highway 60.  The development of plans is being worked on in an effort to coordinate with the Iowa Department of Transportation plans to four-lane Highway 60 to the Minnesota border. A first stage construction project between Bigelow and Worthington is anticipated for 2004 at the earliest.
For special accommodation needs or to request an auxiliary aid, please contact Public Affairs Coordinator Rebecca L. Arndt at 1-800-657-3747.
