Hwy 4 detour north of Sleepy Eye scheduled to begin July 9

MANKATO, Minn. — Motorists traveling on Hwy 4 north of Sleepy Eye will encounter a detour beginning Monday, July 9, weather permitting. A roundabout is being constructed at the intersection of Hwy 4 and Brown County Road 29.

Hwy 4 traffic will be detoured on Hwy 68, County Road 3, and County Road 30. County Road 29 traffic will be detoured on County Road 8, Hwy 68, Hwy 4, Hwy 14, and County Road 10.

The installation of a single-lane roundabout at the Hwy 4/County Road 29 intersection will improve safety at the intersection, which is a sustained crash location with fatalities occurring in 2014 and 2015.

Mathiowetz of Sleepy Eye, MN, was awarded the project with a bid of $1,792,000.

The Hwy 4 project north of Sleepy Eye is one of three construction projects in the Sleepy Eye area for 2018. Work began on May 7 for a road resurfacing project on Hwy 14 from Sleepy Eye to New Ulm which was completed at the beginning of June. Motorists experienced lane restrictions, but no detour for the project.

Work began on May 21 for a road resurfacing project on Hwy 14 in downtown Sleepy Eye and motorists are encountering a detour from June 27 through July 5.
