Detour for Hwy 22 at Blue Earth County Road 90 begins June 6

MANKATO, Minn. – Motorists on Highway 22 will encounter a detour at the intersection of Blue Earth County Road 90 beginning Wednesday, June 6, weather permitting. This closure is part of a project on Highway 22 that started May 7 and includes construction of a roundabout at the intersection of County Road 90.

During roundabout construction, traffic will be detoured on County Road 10 and Highway 83. Businesses along Highway 22 near County Road 90 will have local access routes available.

In addition to the construction of a roundabout to improve safety, the project also includes the addition of left turn lanes into residential areas north and south of County Road 90 and a structural snow fence in the northwest corner to reduce drifting.

Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye was awarded the project with a bid of $4.1 million.

Work is also in progress on a separate Highway 22 reconstruction project from Beauford to Blue Earth County Road 15. This phase of Highway 22 construction started in April and is anticipated to continue through October. It’s an extension of 2017 construction that was completed from Mapleton to County Road 10 at Beauford.

Throughout the spring and summer work will continue along Highway 22 for the Victory Drive Memorial Corridor project. The majority of the 2018 work will focus on tree removal, clearing and grubbing, in preparation for landscaping selected by a steering committee as well as the addition of a Veterans Memorial Plaza in Mapleton.
