Hwy 22 construction starts April 30 from Beauford to Blue Earth County Road 15

MANKATO, Minn. — Weather permitting, construction will begin on Hwy 22 from Beauford to Blue Earth County Road 15 on Monday, April 30, and motorists will be detoured around the project.

Traffic will be detoured east on County Road 10 and north on Hwy 83.

This phase of Hwy 22 construction is an extension of 2017 construction that was completed from Mapleton to County Road 10 at Beauford.

Hwy 22 from County Road 15 to Hwy 83 will remain open for this phase of construction. Businesses in that corridor will be accessible using Hwy 22 through the end of May, when construction begins on the intersection at County Road 90.

Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye was awarded the two-year project with a bid of $16,481,191.

Work is scheduled to begin in May on the safety project at Hwy 22 and County Road 90, which includes construction of a roundabout at the intersection. The project also includes the addition of left turn lanes into residential areas north and south of County Road 90 and a structural snow fence in the northwest corner to reduce drifting.

Throughout the spring and summer work will continue along Hwy 22 for the Victory Drive Memorial Corridor project. The majority of the 2018 work will focus on the removal of trees, clearing and grubbing, in preparation for landscaping selected by a steering committee.
