Hwy 99 bridge at St. Peter to open Nov. 29
Mankato, Minn. – The Highway 99 Minnesota River Bridge at St. Peter is expected to open to traffic on Wednesday, November 29. Traffic has been detoured since March.
The project included preserving the 1931 historic bridge by strengthening the truss floor beams, repairing the piers and abutment, adding riprap (rocks) around abutments, replacing the bridge deck and sidewalk and repainting the structure the original color of a dark green.
New lighting will be also be added later this winter.
The rehabilitation of the historic bridge was originally scheduled to be completed Oct. 31; however, unplanned extra work, including additional steel repairs and fabricating new steel parts, caused the completion to be pushed back.
In late spring of 2018, remaining touch-up paint work on the Highway 99 bridge will require single lane closures for up to three weeks, but the bridge will be open to traffic.
Kraemer North America LLC was the contractor of the $4,416,517 project.
