Henderson transportation flood study complete
Options include Highways 19, 93 and County Road 6
MANKATO, Minn. – A feasibility study to investigate transportation improvements in the Henderson area during flood events was recently completed. While no funding for a project has been identified, the completed study provides documentation to help shape future investments.
The focus of the study includes a benefit/cost analysis of elevating bridges and approach roadways separately for Highways 19 and 93 and Sibley County Road 6.
The goal of the study was to identify safe and accessible routes to and from Henderson and to limit the length of detours and impacts to businesses and regional traffic during high water events.
Techniques used to evaluate the three separate alternatives include developing hydraulic models, modeling traffic routes, design alternatives and environmental impact review.
The feasibility study was initiated by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, along with the city of Henderson, Sibley County, Scott County and Le Sueur County.
