Hwy 14 Nicollet to N. Mankato to open Nov. 11

Nicollet Chamber to host celebration

MANKATO, Minn. – The long-awaited four-lane expansion of Highway 14 from Nicollet to North Mankato and the new interchange with Highway 111/CR 23 is expected to open to traffic late in the day on Friday, Nov. 11.

The project, which included building 6.5 miles of two additional lanes north of existing Highway 14 and a 2.5 mile four-lane southern bypass of Nicollet with an interchange for Highway 111/CR 23, will provide improved mobility and safety for motorists.

When the two-year project kicked off on July 6, 2015 it started to rain and the major grading and paving project has been socked with continuous rains for both construction seasons challenging the workers to drain areas for construction and dry out road materials as well as slowing the paving process.

Initially, both construction seasons required about a two-month detour, but this traffic has been detoured this year since July 25 to allow the contractor to catch up from the numerous rain days.

The Nicollet Chamber of Commerce is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. at the Nicollet Fire Hall for the many people involved in the planning, funding and construction of the expansion project.  The public is welcome to attend.

Mathiowetz Construction Company of Sleepy Eye was the contractor on the $32 million Corridors of Commerce project.
