Highway 14 Nicollet to N. Mankato construction closes County Road 25
Conditions wet for much progress yet
MANKATO, Minn. – The second year of construction on Highway 14 from Nicollet to North Mankato is off to slow start with wet conditions, but has progressed to a point where the closure of Nicollet County Road 25 (both east and west of Highway 14) and 451st Street is set to close Thursday, April 7.
The closure of Nicollet County Road 25 east of Highway 14 will be a permanent closure. County Road 25 west of Highway 14 will re-open in mid-July in time for the expected two-month detour. Initially, the contractor planned to close County Road 25 east of Highway 14 on March 28 and west of Highway 14 the week of April 11, but the wet weather required a change in schedule.
Construction this year includes installing granular and aggregate bases then concrete paving, striping, signing, and erosion control. A detour later in the summer will be necessary to build the connections between existing Highway 14 and the new alignment to the south of Nicollet.
Motorists are advised to stay alert as work on the new lanes north of the existing highway will soon ramp up. Large equipment with be moving in and out of the work site.
The project, which includes building 6.5 miles of two additional lanes north of existing Highway 14 and a 2.5 mile four-lane southern bypass of Nicollet with an interchange for Highway 111/CR 23 is scheduled to be complete by November. Mathiowetz Construction Company of Sleepy Eye is the contractor on the $32 million Corridors of Commerce project.
