Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 86 bridge repair begins July 28; resurfacing to follow

Detour for bridge work over I-90; expect delays during resurfacing

MANKATO, Minn. – Motorists on Hwy 86 traveling across Interstate 90 can expect a detour beginning July 28 as crews begin to update the bridge over Interstate 90.

Traffic will be detoured to Jackson County Roads 34, 17 and 14.  The detour adds approximately 8 miles and will be in place until late August.

In mid-August, the resurfacing of Hwy 86 from the Iowa state line to Interstate 90 will begin.  No detour is required, but motorists can expect brief delays and use caution in the area of flaggers.

The project, which should be completed in late September, includes a mill and overlay to preserve the pavement and provide a smooth ride as well as extend the life of the bridge over I-90 by replacing drainage structures, bridge railings, deck and expansion joints.

Duininck Inc. is the contractor on the $3.2 million project.
