Roundabout rides featured at July 24 fair in Mankato

Public encouraged to come between 3 and 8 p.m. to Gander Mountain parking lot

MANKATO, Minn. – A “Ride the Roundabout Fair” takes place on Thursday, July 24 in the Gander Mountain parking lot in Mankato for anyone with any uncertainty about driving the new multi-lane roundabouts under construction on Highway 22.  The event will take place from 3 to 8 p.m.

Project partners and staff will have assembled a roundabout to simulate the one to be open in August at Adams Street and Highway 22.  Engineers on golf carts will guide the public through the roundabout providing tips and answering questions.

Other features of interest at the fair include:

  • Guided bus tours of local roundabouts (3:30 – 5:30 p.m.)
  • Table-top games and trivia
  • Local business specials
  • Toward Zero Deaths exhibit by area law enforcement
  • Information booths
  • Fair food

“We want to give everyone an opportunity for a hands-on experience before the opening of the multi-lane roundabout on Adams Street,” says Sam Thompson, event coordinator.  “The project partners are working hard to make area motorists comfortable with roundabout operations and this event is the perfect chance to do just that.”

To receive first-hand Highway 22 project information the public is invited to attend weekly Wednesday meetings listed on www.roundaboutready.com and sign up for e-mail updates.  The contractor and project partners are present to provide updates and answer questions. Summaries of the updates will also be posted on the web site.

Maps for local access to businesses during construction can be found at www.roundaboutready.com .
