Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 93 from Henderson to Hwy 169 opens at 3 p.m.

Mankato, Minn. – Hwy 93 from Henderson and Hwy 169 will open to traffic today (July 14) at 3 p.m., according to officials at the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Hwy 93 has been closed since June 19 due to major flooding on the Minnesota River.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution as crews continue to work off the shoulder to establish erosion control.

MnDOT crews removed debris and clear trees.  A contractor was hired to replace approximately 100 feet of roadbed, rebuild about 1,000 feet of shoulder and pave the section of roadbed that was washed away in the flooding.

Hwy 19 from Henderson to Hwy 169 was also closed on June 19 due to flooding and remains closed.  Hwy 19 received extensive damage and MnDOT engineers are working on designs to stabilize the areas where there were major mud slides.

When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
