Orange barrels on a highway

Construction on Hwys 5, 19 and 22 in Gaylord starts July 7

Traffic detoured until fall

MANKATO, Minn. – Motorists on Hwys 5, 19 and 22 in Gaylord can expect a detour to begin Monday, July 7 as crews begin the first stage of a two-year full reconstruction project.

Hwy 19 detour:

  • Non-truck traffic will be detoured to 8th Street, Main Avenue.
  • Truck traffic will be detoured to Sibley County Roads 4, 8 and Hwy 22 as the local city streets cannot accommodate the turning movements of larger vehicles.

Hwy 22 detour:

  • All traffic will be detoured to Sibley County Roads 12 and 13 and Hwys 5 and 19

Stage one construction on Hwys 19 and 22 extends from Sibley Avenue to Gaylord’s north city limits.  After construction is complete between Sibley Avenue and Main Avenue in late July, traffic will be switched from 8th Street to Sibley Avenue, which is stage 2.

Work on the project includes grading, paving, installing utilities, lighting, landscaping, replacing sidewalk and improving pedestrian accessibility on Hwys 5, 19 and 22 in the city of Gaylord.

Work will continue into the fall of 2014 and resume with additional stages to be complete in the 2015 construction season.

Detour maps, background information and weekly updates will continue to be posted on Gaylord’s city website at  exploregaylord.org/.

Weekly public meetings to provide update and address concerns will be held beginning July 10:

  • Thursdays
  • 11 a.m.
  • Gaylord Public Library
  • 428 Main Street

Wm. Mueller & Sons of Hamburg has been awarded the contract for $10,167,451.
