Orange barrels on a highway

Hwy 22 Mankato detour begins June 2

Access maintained to all businesses throughout construction

MANKATO, Minn. – While Hwy 22 motorists in Mankato from Bassett Drive to north of Adams Street will be detoured starting early Monday (June 2) morning, all the area retail will be open for business and accessible.

The detour route, expected to be in-place until September, for traffic traveling through Mankato will be signed one route for northbound and another for southbound; however two-way traffic will be maintained.  The routes are:

Northbound Hwy 22

  • Bassett Drive, Carver Road, Blue Earth County Road 17 (opening to County Road 12), Blue Earth County Road 12 to Victory Drive

Southbound Hwy 22

  • Victory Drive

The Hwy 22 detour route has been coordinated with the opening of Blue Earth County Road 17 from Haefner Drive to County Road 12, which will take place over the weekend.   County Road 17 east of County Road 12 to west of County Road 56 remains closed.

Local access routes to businesses east of Hwy 22 include Hwy 22 between Hwy 14 and a temporary access road into the Gander Mountain parking area (the Gander Road).

The project partners would like to remind motorists of the following safety tips during construction:

  • Never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
  • Stay off cell phones and mobile devices.
  • Don’t make unnecessary lane changes.
  • Be patient.  Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Plan your route in advance.

The reconstruction project includes constructing multi-lane roundabouts at the Hwy 22 intersections with Adams Street and Madison Avenue.

To receive first-hand information the public is invited to attend weekly Wednesday meetings listed on www.roundaboutready.com and sign up for e-mail updates.  The contractor and project partners are present to provide updates and answer questions. Summaries of the updates will also be posted on the web site.
