Orange barrels on a highway

Faribault County Road 11 closes at I-90 on May 27 for one month

Closure part of I-90 bridges under repair

MANKATO, Minn. – Faribault County Road 11 will close at Interstate 90 for approximately 30 days for interstate bridge repair work.

The closure is part of the work on the I-90 bridges near Blue Earth that begin this week resulting in lane restrictions on I-90.

By mid-June traffic on I-90 will be reduced to two-way on two lanes with reduced speeds.  The westbound Blue Earth Rest Area will also be closed while crews work on the westbound lanes.  In late July, the work will switch to the eastbound lanes and the eastbound Blue Earth Rest Area will be closed. During the rest area closures, improvements will be made to the parking lots and sidewalks for accessibility.

The 7 I-90 bridges include:

  • 2 over Blue Earth River
  • 2 over Hwy 169
  • 2 over East Fork of the Blue Earth River
  • 1 over Faribault County Road 11

The project, which includes approach panels, joint work and bridge deck overlays, will be complete in September.  Lunda Construction Company was awarded the project with a bid of $2,759,288.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution in a work zone and reminds them never to enter a roadway that has been blocked with barricades or cones.
