Hwy 68 at Mankato closing for bridge replacement
Detour expected to begin July 17
MANKATO, Minn. — Motorists can expect a detour for Highway 68 starting at the junction with Highway 169 in Mankato the week of July 15 as crews work to replace the bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad.
Preparation of the detour using Blue Earth County Road 50 and Highway 60 begins July 15 with the detour in place by mid-week. The detour is expected to be in place until early October.
Local Blue Earth County Roads 117 and 120 will be closed to commercial truck traffic due to railroad crossing safety. All motorists are encouraged to use the signed detour route as it provides a separated rail crossing and safer access to Highway 60.
The Minneopa Trail will remain open with a short gravel bypass.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is replacing the 1936 bridge because it has reached the end of its useful lifespan.
Minnowa Construction of Harmony is the contractor on the $1,543,387 project.
