Public invited to Hwy 22 roundabouts meeting May 21

Roundabout Ready campaign begins

MANKATO, Minn.— The public is encouraged to attend an informational meeting regarding the Hwy 22 roundabouts project, which includes constructing two multi-lane roundabouts at Madison Avenue and Adams Street in Mankato.

The meeting will occur Tuesday, May 21, from 4-7 p.m. at the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Northwoods Conference Room, 2151 Bassett Drive, Mankato.

Brief presentations will take place at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The public will review conceptual design plans for the project, meet with project representatives, share their thoughts and learn about how to stay informed on project activities.

The meeting will also mark the beginning of the Roundabout Ready campaign—an extensive public involvement campaign designed to educate drivers and stakeholders on navigating multi-lane roundabouts.

The Hwy 22 project is a collaboration between MnDOT, Blue Earth County and the City of Mankato. The project also includes installing flashing yellow arrows for left-turn signals on Hwy 22 through Mankato and sidewalk and pedestrian trail accessibility improvements along Hwy 22 to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Project design will occur throughout 2013 and construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2014.  All work will occur during one construction season to minimize business impacts. Once complete, Hwy 22 will provide a safer and more efficient ride for motorists traveling through Mankato.
