MnDOT hosts meeting on Hwy 71 bridge replacement in Jackson April 25

Construction scheduled for 2015

MANKATO, Minn. – The public is encouraged to attend an open house on the plans to replace the Highway 71 Bridge over the Des Moines River in Jackson. The open house will run from 5 to 7 p.m. with a brief presentation at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 at the Jackson City Hall, 80 West Ashley Street.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to replace the existing 60-year old four-lane bridge with a new three lane bridge (one lane each way and center lane for left turns). The plan also calls for providing a 10-foot trail, reconfiguring the 4th Street/Springfield Parkway/Highway 71 intersection and modifying business and street access to improve safety.

Benefits of the project include raising the bridge slightly to reduce flooding, improve traffic operations at the intersection, providing better accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists and reducing speeds for improved safety.
