Orange barrels on a highway

Detour removal from Hwy 23 in Rock County moved to week of July 29

Completion date delayed by one week

MANKATO, Minn. – Motorists in Rock County will need to wait until the week of July 29 for the Hwy 23 detour to be removed.

Officials from the Minnesota Department of Transportation reported earlier that the plan was to open Hwy 23 the week of July 22. Additional work needed on the shoulders has delayed the project completion.

Traffic has been detoured since May 6 to reconstruct the pavement.

The Hwy 23 detour included Interstate 90, Hwy 75, Rock County Road 12 and Pipestone County Road 1.

The Hwy 23 project extended 17 miles from I-90 to Jasper and included removing the asphalt pavement and replacing with concrete. Some areas were graded to correct the subsurface. The $9.5 million project was awarded to PCI Roads, LLC.

Motorist will experience a much smoother and safer ride.
