Hwy 60 detour around railroad bridge in Worthington removed March 1

Expect Hwy 60 work to resume in spring

MANKATO, Minn. — For a few months, motorists can drive Highway 60 in Worthington without a detour as the short detour around the UP Railroad Bridge will be removed on Friday, March 1.

Motorists will need to continue to heed the 3-way STOP with Nobles County Road 33 and the 4-way STOP with Noble County Roads 5 and 35.

Work over the winter included retaining wall construction; site grading, sheet pile removal and Union Pacific track work. Additional work in the area of the bridge and to the south including more retaining wall construction and roadway related finishing work (center median, trail paving, additional lighting and turf establishment) will continue in the spring after weight restrictions are lifted.

This third and final phase of reconstruction on Highway 60 from north of Nobles County Road 35 to Interstate 90 will resume with a detour for Highway 59 to the west and Highway 60 to the east in the spring. The work includes pavement reconstruction and construction of two additional roundabouts, and one signalized intersection.

A separate contract for landscaping will take place in 2014.
