Improvements planned for Hwy 14/County Road 86 intersection
New County Road 12 interchange with Hwy 14 to serve local north/south traffic
MANKATO, Minn. —Traffic restrictions will be put in place at the at-grade intersection of Highway 14 and Blue Earth County Road 86 to improve safety the week of Dec. 10.
The restrictions include no crossing Highway 14 and no left turns will be permitted to or from Highway 14 at the intersection with County Road 86. Local north/south traffic should use the new Highway 14 interchange with Blue Earth County Road 12.
Motorists are advised to slow down and drive with caution through the work zone on Highway 14 as traffic will be restricted to one lane each direction during construction.
The work includes the removal of the crossover, left turn lanes and the median acceleration lane for County Road 86 to westbound Highway 14 and limits traffic movements to right in and right out at County Road 86.
One reason the Minnesota Department of Transportation partnered with Blue Earth County to build the County Road 12 interchange was because it allowed the agency to minimize the traffic movements at the intersection with County Road 86 that has experienced several severe crashes. The County Road 12 interchange will also alleviate some traffic issues on Highway 22 in Mankato.
