Hwy 14 prep work begins May 1 in North Mankato
Detour anticipated after Memorial Day
MANKATO, Minn. – Motorists and residents along Hwy 14 in North Mankato should watch for workers as they prepare for major construction of a new interchange and two miles of expansion beginning May 1, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The prep work includes widening the intersection at Nicollet County Road 6 and County Road 77 and striping for the detour that is anticipated after Memorial Day. The detour will include County Road 6, County Road 77 and County Road 13/Lookout Drive. Other early work includes building the bypass for County Road 41, earthwork for the interchange bridge and utility relocations.
The Hwy 14 project in North Mankato is being built in phases in two years. The 2012 construction project includes:
- Construct embankment for bridge and ramps at County Road 41 interchange
- Construct ditches, ponds, drainage structures
- Grade westbound Hwy 14
- Grade and pave eastbound Hwy 14 lanes
- Grade, pave and complete the roundabout at County Road 6, Pleasant View Drive and Country Road 41
Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye is the prime contractor for the $8,595,090 project. Maps and more information about the bids for 2013 construction can be found at www.dot.state.mn.us/d7/projects/14northmankato/.
