Prescribed burn scheduled along I-90 near Blue Earth
MANKATO, Minn. – Motorists may see smoke from a prescribed burn along I-90 in the Blue Earth area sometime Wednesday, March 28, through Friday, March 30.
Traffic will not be affected and the interstate will remain open during the burn.
Trained crews will conduct the burn to promote native vegetation and control weeds as part of a prairie restoration project. The re-vegetation project is part of the multi-state Prairie Passage route, and the resulting native vegetation will provide scenic enhancement and help with weed control efforts.
The burn will be scheduled during optimal weather conditions to ensure safety and effectiveness. Crews may need to return the first week in April to finish work.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation urges motorists to always drive with caution, slowdown in work zones, and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.
