Future of Hwy 4 in St. James topic of Oct. 11 open house
Survey for input begins Oct. 5
MANKATO, Minn. – The public is encouraged to attend an open house on the reconstruction of Hwy 4 through St. James from 2 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Community Building, 501 First Avenue S., St. James.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the city of St. James are working together to gather feedback about future upgrades to Hwy 4/30 (Armstrong Boulevard). Options being considered include reconstructing the current alignment or re-aligning on county roads west and north of St. James.
MnDOT engineers and city planners are at the early stages of project development and want to gain an understanding of how travelers (including cyclists and pedestrians), businesses and residents use the road to accomplish a complete streets perspective. Construction would not begin until 2016 at the earliest.
In addition to providing feedback at the open house, residents and businesses are encouraged to fill out a survey at www.stjames.govoffice.com available Oct. 5. Area business representatives also are invited to attend a business luncheon on Oct. 11. For more information call 507-375-3241.
