Temporary change to Hwy 60 detour begins Sept. 26

Traffic will use Nobles County Road 33 instead of Nobles County Road 35

MANKATO, Minn. – Motorists can expect a small change to the Hwy 60 detour in Worthington beginning Monday, Sept. 26.

Traffic will be routed to Oxford Street/Nobles County Road 33 to access Hwy 60, instead of Nobles County Road 35. The detour continues to use Nobles County Road 4 and Nobles County Road 5.

The change is needed for crews to complete underground utility construction across Hwy 60 as well as  reconstruct and lower Hwy 60 for the new Union Pacific Railroad Bridge project.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation plans to return the Hwy 60 detour to the current routes later this fall. Traffic will continue using the original detour through the winter months.

MnDOT initially planned to modify the detour earlier this year; however, the state government shutdown significantly delayed some construction plans.

This work is part of the Hwy 60 expansion from Bigelow to Interstate 90 in Worthington. R & G Construction Company of Marshall, is the prime contractor on the segment from Paul Avenue in Worthington to Nobles County Road 35.  Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye, is the prime contractor on the rural segment from Nobles County Road 4 to Paul Avenue in Worthington. Lunda Construction, Black River Falls, Wis., is the prime contractor for replacing the railroad bridge.
