Mankato area Highway projects to resume
MANKATO, Minn. – After a 20-day state government shutdown, highway projects in the Mankato area are resuming on varying dates dependent on the contractors current status.
The following area contractors have advised Mn/DOT of their return to work plan:
- Hwy 4 bridge south of Sleepy Eye – expected to resume mid-August (contractor had mobilized to another job).
- Hwy 14 around Waseca – limited work began Thursday, July 21.
- Hwy 30 from Amboy to Mapleton – expected to resume Wednesday, Aug. 3.
- Hwy 83 from Mankato to Hwy 30 – expected to resume Monday, July 25.
While contractors are anxious to get back to work, some of them moved to other jobs to keep their operations going. This may have resulted in moving paving plants and equipment. Mn/DOT construction engineers are trying to balance the needs on a statewide basis for those contractors who have multiple state highway projects.
Notification that the contractors can work on state highway projects began immediately after the shutdown ended. Engineers will work closely with contractors to fully assess the impacts and determine additional time and expense needed to complete each project.
The shutdown also may impact the scheduling of late season projects that have not yet been bid to contractors.
The public is advised to visit www.511mn.org for current travel conditions.
